Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) Overview: Nursery – Year 11
The teaching of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) covers, within all the year groups:
- Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC)
- British values
- The PREVENT strategy
- Sex and Relationship Education (SRE)
- Relationships with others
- Useful life skills such as budgeting
- Being mentally and physically healthy
We aim through the teaching of PSHE to help children to understand the world, society, others and themselves. Within primary we use the scheme “Jigsaw” as a foundation for our planning. We use Jigsaw as it provides a holistic approach to PSHE including mindfulness, mental health and SMSC. Within secondary the teaching of PSHE is included within other subjects, during drop down days and assemblies. During tutor times / registration times, PSHE sessions and assemblies, we discuss with the children current issues and experiences that they might be having to help ensure wellbeing and understanding at all levels. Within primary all classes will focus on the same topic throughout each term. This allows children to all be focusing on similar areas of learning all at once, at age appropriate differentiated levels.
