Health & Social Care
The study of Health and Social Care aims to empower our post-16 students with the knowledge and skills to appropriately care for individuals with additional needs. It involves understanding the roles and responsibilities of different care workers, whether they work in the medical or social field.
Health and Social Care aims to encourage students to think of others and actively practise the 6Cs of care – care, compassion, courage, communication, commitment and competence. We aim to nurture the collaboration that is needed to work in the National Health Service.
As a department, we use big questions, such as what causes loneliness in the elderly? And why is multidisciplinary working so important in the UK?
Lesson time is given over to explicitly developing the reflective thinking skills that are needed to think ‘like a healthcare worker’. We focus on embedding the key skills of communication, compassion and collaboration.
