School Governor

The reason that we chose HPFS for our daughter was that we felt that the ethos of the school, its aims, values and proposed standards, were something that we believed in and would be happy to support. This remains largely the reason I have put my name forward as a Parent Governor.

The reason that we chose HPFS for our daughter was that we felt that the ethos of the school, its aims, values and proposed standards, were something that we believed in and would be happy to support. This remains largely the reason I have put my name forward as a Parent Governor. I was a civil servant for 28+ years in HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office in Whitehall, and then latterly as a Senior Personnel Manager within the MoD in Arncott (with a particular interest in performance management, job evaluation and remuneration strategy). I have some previous experience as a parent governor, spending 4 years on the Governing Body at Abbey's first primary school. This provided me with satisfaction, challenge and frustration in about equal measure and judging from the experience of others, this is about par for the course! Being involved as a Parent Governor in a school Governing Body means bringing the parental perspective to the myriad of discussions and decisions that take place on any Governing Body. This is a rare opportunity to be involved at the start of the journey for our school and, hopefully, to make a positive contribution to the school’s direction and progress. I view the parent governor role as representing the views of parents as fairly and sensibly as possible. It is inevitable that we, as parents, may not always share the same views on specific issues, but we all have the same ultimate aim; that our children should be happy and secure in their school and make the very best of the educational opportunities that are available to them in order to lead successful and fulfilled lives. On a personal note, I have been married to Adrian for the last 24 years. We live in Caversfield with our daughter Abbey, a houseful of cats and dogs and a grumpy python named Juliette (named by Abbey in the hope that dad might be persuaded to let her have a mate to be called Romeo!)
