Homework

                                             HOMEWORK at HPFS

Whilst we recognise that students in the secondary phase have an extended day in school, it is important that we develop students’ independent skills and security in their learning through homework.
Homework may be set as a termly project task as in English at Key Stage 3 or it may be shorter weekly tasks for students to prepare for a lesson or to review their learning after a lesson in Key Stage 4. With most GCSE qualifications being 100% examinations, it is so important that our students showcase their ‘can do’ attitude though completing quality work independently and hand work in on time.
We encourage students to record homework in their planners however we are also re-launching Showmyhomework to facilitate better communication between teachers, students and parents when it comes to homework. It is a really easy way for teachers to record home learning and for families to access the information set by staff therefore be better equipped to support their sons/daughters.
Positive attitudes to HW can…
-add value by creating independence
-extend and challenge learning in the classroom
-boost engagement and self-confidence

All staff, students and parents will be issued with passwords to create their personal profile and begin using the system by the end of September 2017.
All subjects will set and publish appropriate HW tasks on a weekly basis or in advance for the whole term which will allow for more flexibility.
Learning teams will host HW clubs at lunchtimes and will follow-up on any unsatisfactory/incomplete HW.

                                     HOMEWORK in English
